Imagine a gender equal world—free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

This week we’ll mark International Women’s Day and all week long we’ll be celebrating woman who are making a difference with innovation and technology for gender equality.

Meet Chhim, a woman behind agriculture modernisation in Cambodia. She's a laser land levelling service provider for farmers in Banteay Meanchey province.

Land levelling is a precision technology that helps rice farmers reduce water consumption, improve input efficiency, and increase yields, and is also more environmentally friendly.

In 2022, with Australian support, Chhim purchased a laser land leveller and used it to level 40 hectares of rice fields. At first, she found the technology intimidating, however learning the new machinery and technology wasn’t that hard. She encourages other women not to let this stand in their way and to embrace innovation and technology in farming as the results and profits have been great for her. She is now planning to buy a new leveller and expand her business.

Australia is committed to supporting Cambodia's agriculture sector, with a special focus on women-led businesses. The Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED) aims to build and promote sustainable, inclusive, and resilient economic growth.
