Smallholder coffee farmers in remote areas are amongst the most vulnerable to the impact of climate change and rising energy costs. Many have traditionally relied on diesel-powered irrigation systems. Recent price increases linked to global supply chain disruptions have placed growing pressure on household incomes and farm viability.
Australia is partnering with local coffee processor KOFI to help Bunong Indigenous coffee farmers in Mondulkiri adopt solar-powered irrigation systems. This initiative helps farmers access clean and reliable energy solutions, reducing operating costs and dependence on imported fuel while supporting more sustainable coffee production.
Through initiatives like this, Australia is helping to build food and energy security, enhance climate resilience and support rural livelihoods in Cambodia so that all communities can benefit from sustainable economic growth.
