Today is World Water Day and we are together accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis here in Cambodia and around the globe.

Over the past decade, Australia has helped over a million Cambodians to access clean, piped water in their homes for the first time. This is a huge step forward, especially for vulnerable and disadvantaged communities, including women and people with disabilities, supporting them to meet domestic needs and for many, to run small businesses.

We’ve co-invested in 80 local, private water operators (PWOs) to support the development of quality water infrastructure. Groundwater safeguarding is at the core of our implementation with 95% of PWOs using treated surface water from rivers, streams, ponds or reservoirs. Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED) supports the business development of its partner PWOs including bringing a gender and inclusion lens to strengthen their businesses.

Australia continues its water infrastructure services with CAPRED. Its overall goal is to help Cambodia achieve sustainable, inclusive and resilient economic growth. Gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI) and climate resilience are incorporated into all CAPRED activities.
