Australia supports Cambodia’s informal economy – a key driver of jobs and incomes

Did you know Cambodia’s informal economy engages approximately 88 per cent of the national workforce? It plays a vital role in driving inclusive economic growth, reducing poverty, and creating livelihoods for the country.

Australia is proud to support Cambodia’s National Strategy for the Informal Sector. The Strategy provides guidance for the informal workforce on expanding and sustaining businesses, and accessing social protection, skills training, and financial services.

Through CAPRED, Australia has developed a real-time dashboard that enables 28 ministries, local authorities and private sector actors to coordinate and monitor implementation of the Strategy, improving transparency, accountability, and collaboration across all stakeholders.

Australia is committed to fostering a stronger business environment, empowering small enterprises, and ensuring inclusive access to economic opportunities and public services for all Cambodians.
