Cambodia has long relied on imports for many cooking essentials, from fresh milk and instant noodles to seasonings and sauces. Australia is partnering with local producers to expand domestic production – reducing import reliance and building more resilient food systems.
Our support to LEANG LENG Fish Sauce is helping establish new sauce processing facilities, creating a bigger market for local green mussels, a key ingredient for food sauces. This is expected to increase demand from 72 tonnes to over 950 tonnes per year, supporting the incomes of at least 400 households in the Peam Krosoap fishing community.
We are also connecting Cambodian-made products with major distributors so they can reach more supermarket shelves across the country.
By supporting local producers, Australia is helping Cambodia build a more self-reliant food system, while creating jobs, supporting rural livelihoods and driving a more resilient economy.
