Did you know by 2050, 75 per cent of jobs will be related to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) areas. That’s why Kreosna, is helping Cambodian women to enter these fields.
Kreosna is an agricultural engineer who's very experienced in maintaining farming machinery and fixing tractors, harvesters, planters and all sorts of agricultural equipment. She's even invented her own rice transplanting and seed cleaning machines.
Having studied Agricultural Engineering at the Royal University of Agriculture in Phnom Penh, she believes increasing the participation of women and girls in digital and STEM fields is vital for Cambodia’s agriculture future.
“I’m promoting women in the machinery sector because mechanisation and technology can improve Cambodia's agriculture and growers' incomes.”
Kreosna is now working as the Agri-Tech Development Manager for Australia's flagship economic development program, Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED).
In a previous Australian-funded project, she started a program to support women in the agricultural machinery service business. Today, at least eight women from Prey Veng, Kompong Thom, Pursat, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey and Siem Reap provinces are providing drone and laser land leveling services. Some have even expanded their businesses and gained recognition in their communities.
